The life of Anthony Perkins, the late gay actor who played Norman Bates in the original Psycho and three sequels, is explored on Anthony Perkins: A Life in the Shadows on Arts and Entertainment's "Biography" series, and on The True Hollywood Story on E! Perkins died of AIDS complications in 1992. Sensitive portrayal of TG teen
Sarah helped a teenage girl who is taking steroids in anticipation of getting gender
reassignment surgery when she comes of age on a recent episode of L.A. Doctors. This very sensitive episode showed Sarah standing by the teenager when he told his parents, whose reaction, as in the case of many of us when we come out, was split.
The mother ultimately rejected her child while the father realized his parental love was greater than his marital love. Catch this one when it repeats.
Martial arts group
Laura Santoro, who does a martial arts show called, Western Warrior on WRUWFM in Cleveland, told me about a group called the International Association of Gay and Lesbian Martial Artists. The group's members include practitioners of all styles of martial arts and includes those who are physically challenged.
The organization's tournament rules were the official rules for Gay Games IV and V and will be the official rules of the Gay Games VI in Sydney, Australia in 2002. They also publish a quarterly newsletter.

Film looks at murder of Nebraska transgender man
Homophobia and transphobia are the subjects of The Brandon Teena Story, a gripping new nonfiction film that looks at the tragic case of Brandon Teena, a 20-year-old Nebraskan who was beaten and raped by two of his friends on Christmas Eve, 1993, and then murdered by the same two men one week later.
The reason? Their discovery that Brandon was biologically a woman, born Teena Brandon, who dressed and passed as a man and dated several women.
This multi-award-winning film, directed by Susan Muska and Greta Olafsdottir, takes an in-depth look at Teena's sexual ambiguity, the friends that became his brutal killers, and the fearful small-town environment that allowed hatred to flourish.
The 90 minute film can be seen Friday, January 22 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, January 23 at 9:20 pm at the Cleveland Cinematheque at the Cleveland Institute of Art, 11141 East Blvd. in University Circle. Admission is $6; $4 for Cinematheque members and $3 for art institute students and staff.
